Sabrina Schuetzle, the founder of Sabrina’s Serenity Yoga, shares her transformative journey with yoga—a journey that has shaped both her life and the lives of many others seeking healing, balance, and personal growth. Her story is one of resilience, self-discovery, and the profound impact yoga can have on the body, mind, and spirit.
Sabrina’s introduction to yoga began at the age of sixteen in her hometown of Calgary, Alberta. She and a friend signed up for a community center yoga program, each purchasing a ten-class pass. What initially seemed like a casual experiment quickly became a deeply personal practice that offered far more than physical exercise. Through Hatha yoga, Sabrina was introduced to the powerful combination of breathwork and physical postures that helped her manage stress, promote health, and foster a sense of calm—a journey that has since spanned over two decades.
As Sabrina grew older, yoga played a pivotal role in helping her navigate physical challenges. A passionate snowboarder in her twenties, she began experiencing injuries from both snowboarding accidents and motor vehicle collisions. These injuries led to pain in her neck, shoulder, back, and knees, causing her to spend more time in physical therapy than on the slopes. After undergoing surgery to repair a shoulder injury, Sabrina found herself struggling with the emotional toll of being separated from the activities she loved. In these trying moments, yoga emerged as her anchor—helping her stay mentally focused while promoting acceptance of her temporary situation.
In 2016, Sabrina’s path took a new direction. Inspired by monthly guided meditations that helped her release old emotional burdens, she decided to pursue a new career in health and wellness, with a focus on pain management. She relocated to Ontario, where she reconnected with her yoga practice and enrolled in a 200-hour yoga teacher training program in 2017. This shift marked the beginning of her mission to bring healing to others, especially those suffering from physical and emotional pain.
Since then, Sabrina has continued to expand her knowledge and expertise in yoga. After becoming a certified Hatha yoga instructor, she began teaching Karma yoga classes in schools, retirement homes, and even a local coffee shop. In 2018, Sabrina had the opportunity to deepen her understanding of trauma-informed yoga through Vancouver Yoga Outreach. This training equipped her with tools to support individuals facing mental health challenges, addiction, and trauma, helping them reconnect with their bodies and emotions in a safe and nurturing space.
The loss of her father in 2020 was another pivotal moment for Sabrina. The grief was overwhelming, but she found solace in nature and the tools she had gained through yoga. In honor of her father and to deepen her practice, Sabrina enrolled in a 300-hour Ashtanga yoga teacher training program based in Goa, India. This advanced training gave her a deeper understanding of yoga philosophy, moving meditation, and the transformative power of consistent practice. By January 2021, Sabrina had achieved her 500-hour yoga teaching certification.
Sabrina’s evolving journey eventually led her to a unique aspiration: combining her love for travel and yoga. In 2021, she discovered the joy of riding motorcycles, and with this newfound passion, Sabrina set her sights on becoming a traveling virtual yoga instructor. Through her classes, she hopes to inspire others to explore new possibilities for self-care, movement, and mindfulness.
Currently, Sabrina offers virtual yoga classes designed for people of all levels. Her 30-minute beginner chair yoga class and 50-minute gentle mat yoga class are accessible to individuals who are seeking to develop a personal yoga practice that nurtures both body and mind. Sabrina’s classes are thoughtfully scheduled to accommodate participants across different time zones, with each class priced at $11.
